Are Alvar chews suitable for puppies?Updated 15 days ago
Chews are a great way for a puppy to direct their energy to something instead of digging their little teeth into forbidden objects or trouble. When a puppy is changing their teeth, chews aid in both itchy gums and moving baby teeth.
In Alvar’s selection, the Reindeer chew sticks are the best suited for puppies, as they are softer and smaller to chew on than our elk skin chews. Also, our Fish skin roll offers a yummy tooth project for a growing pup.
Alvar Pet Dental Chews are not recommended for puppies. Their texture and chewing resistance are designed for adult dogs’ teeth, and they may be difficult for a puppy to chew safely. A puppy may also bite off larger pieces that can be difficult to swallow.
For growing puppies, it is important to ensure a balanced intake of energy and nutrients and a dental chew intended for daily use is not a necessary addition to the diet at this stage. Preventing tartar buildup is also less relevant while the puppy is still losing its baby teeth.
It’s a good idea to start caring for your puppy’s oral health by getting them used to daily tooth brushing from an early age. We recommend introducing Dental Chews for tartar prevention only once the permanent teeth have come in, at around 7 months of age.
